Where AI Is and Isn't

A lot of haunt people build things by hand — makeup, masks, sets, sound design, costumes, characters, photographs. Plenty of platforms have been quietly unclear about what happens to that work once it's uploaded. We would rather just tell you, including the parts where we do use AI.

Nothing you post to Haunted 365 is used to train an AI model, or reachable by an AI crawler. Generative AI tools are not part of our posting or uploading processes. The places we do use AI are listed below, by name, so you can judge for yourself rather than take our word for the summary.

• We don't train on it. Your posts, photos, characters, remembrances, reviews, catacomb conversations, and messages are not used to train or fine-tune any AI model — not ours, and not anyone else's. We do not sell or license member content to AI companies.
• We don't generate it. No AI writes posts, comments, reviews, or messages on the platform. Nothing is posted under your name that you didn't write.
• We don't leave it where crawlers can take it. Member-authored content lives behind sign-in. It is never served to a request that isn't signed in, which means AI crawlers cannot reach it — not because we politely asked them not to, but because there is nothing there to fetch.

Our haunt directory, event listings, job board, and pages like this one are public on purpose — that's how haunts get found. Public pages are open to search engines, and we don't block AI crawlers from them either. Being findable is the entire point of a directory, and pretending otherwise would be theatre.

So the line is: the directory is public, the community is not. If something you made is on a public haunt listing, treat it as public. Everything in the members' side of Haunted 365 stays behind the door.

Writing the software. We use AI coding assistants to help build and review this platform, the way most small engineering teams now do. A human writes the requirements, reviews every change, and is accountable for what ships. The rules those assistants have to follow — privacy, tenant isolation, what they're forbidden from inventing — are written down and enforced in review. AI helps us build the tool; it doesn't run it.

One feature, on public business data. When we add a haunt to the directory from public sources, we sometimes use AI to draft the short "why this is here" line on that listing. It only ever looks at publicly available information about a business — never at member content — and when it doesn't have enough to say something accurate, the listing goes into a human review queue instead of guessing. A haunt owner who claims their listing can rewrite that text themselves.

That is the complete list. If it changes, this page changes with it.

The Haunted 365 logo, our brand art, and our marketing materials are designed by people, in Canva. They are not AI-generated images. In an industry built on handmade craft, we weren't going to dress the front of the house in something a prompt produced.

The fastest way for a community like this to fill up with AI-generated slop is to let anyone declare themselves a vendor, a news source, or a leader. So those roles are reviewed by a person before they're granted:

• Coven ambassadors apply, and a human reviews the application. Program standing is a responsibility, not something you can claim for yourself.
• Vendors and news sources submit a request and are approved, rejected, or later revoked by a person. The badge on a resource page means someone checked.
• Haunt listings go through review before they appear publicly. A submission does not put itself on the directory.

None of this makes it impossible for someone to pass off generated work as their own. It does mean there's a person in the way, and a name attached to the decision, which is the part that actually deters it.
